As advised by the HSE, if you are confirmed for Covid-19 (coronavirus) and need to be admitted for treatment, you will be referred directly to your nearest hospital where you will be admitted as a public patient.  Every Irish citizen is entitled to be treated in our public hospitals as a public patient at a maximum of €80 per night (up to a max of €800 in any 12 month period), a cost that will be invoiced from the hospital to your health insurance provider and will be fully covered.

We encourage our members to directly follow the advice and guidance of the HSE www.hse.ie/coronavirus when it comes to understanding symptoms, and how to get referred if you are worried about symptoms.

No, we’d ask you not to pay this. We are currently in discussion with hospitals to understand all costs related to pre-admission Covid-19 testing for elective procedures with a view to understanding how best we can cover this cost as part of your policy and benefits. We hope to come to an agreement directly with hospitals shortly.

We would reassure all laya healthcare members that they will not experience any further delay or cancellation of any elective procedure because of the cost of pre-admission Covid-19 testing.

No, as this is being managed directly by the HSE and the Government announced that it will directly cover the costs of GP telephone consultations and respiratory checks related to Covid-19 related illness. They will also cover the cost of Covid-19 tests if you are referred by your GP. This is covered for public patients and those with private health insurance cover.
